BASEMAP HELP
USE BASEMAP IN CLAUDE, CHATGPT AND OTHER AI ASSISTANTS

Connect your BaseMap account to the AI assistant you already use. Ask it about seasons, draw odds, units, land ownership, terrain and weather, and have it save waypoints and shapes straight to your map.

CONNECT IN CLAUDE

  1. Open Claude's Settings, then Connectors. If BaseMap is listed in the directory, choose it there. If not, choose Add custom connector and paste the address below.

  2. Sign in with your BaseMap email and password when Claude asks.

  3. Review what BaseMap will share and choose Allow. You can change this later from Connected apps.

  4. Start a new chat and ask away. Claude shows a BaseMap step each time it looks something up.

Connector address: https://mcp.basemap.com/mcp

CONNECT IN CHATGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT's Settings, then Apps (or Connectors). If BaseMap is listed, choose it there.

  2. If it isn't listed yet, turn on Developer mode under Advanced, choose Create, and paste the same address as above.

  3. Sign in with your BaseMap account and choose Allow.

Other assistants that support remote MCP connectors with sign-in can use the same address. Check your assistant's own help for where to add a connector.

WHAT YOU'LL BE ASKED TO ALLOW

  • Look up hunting data: regulations, draw odds, hunt units, harvest statistics, terrain and maps.

  • See your saved items: your waypoints, tracks and folders, so the assistant can answer questions about them.

  • Save to your account: waypoints and shapes, only when you ask it to.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK

  • Regulations and seasons: "When does archery elk open in Colorado unit 61, and what tags do I need?"

  • Draw odds and application periods: "What are my odds for a Wyoming region G deer tag with 3 points, and when do applications close?"

  • Units and land ownership: "Who owns the land around Elk Creek in unit 54, and how much of it is public?"

  • Terrain and viewsheds: "Find south-facing benches between 8,500 and 9,500 feet in this unit, and show me what I can see from the saddle above camp."

  • Weather, wind and moon: "What will the wind do at my stand Saturday morning, and what's the moon phase?"

  • Your own waypoints and tracks: "Which of my saved glassing spots are on public land?"

The assistant can't see your screen. Name the place, unit or waypoint you mean, or ask it to find a place first.

SAVING TO YOUR MAP

When you ask the assistant to mark, save or draw something, it saves it to your BaseMap account. It shows up in the BaseMap app on your phone and computer after the next sync, usually within a couple of minutes, and the reply includes an Open in BaseMap link that takes you straight to it. Ask it to change or delete something it saved and it will do that too, after showing you what it's about to remove.

WHAT YOUR PLAN COVERS

Regulations, maps, terrain and weather work on every BaseMap account. Land ownership needs a Pro plan or above. Draw odds, harvest statistics and other hunt data need a Pro Ultimate plan. If you ask for something your plan doesn't include, the assistant says so and points you to an upgrade rather than guessing.

PRIVACY

Your questions go to the AI provider you chose, Anthropic for Claude or OpenAI for ChatGPT, under their terms. BaseMap sees only the lookups and saves the assistant makes on your behalf, and uses them to answer and to keep your account safe. See BaseMap's privacy policy for the details.

DISCONNECTING

Go to Settings › Connected apps at app.basemap.com and remove the assistant, or remove the connector inside Claude or ChatGPT. Either one stops the assistant's access right away. Anything it already saved stays on your map.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • "Sign in to BaseMap" keeps coming back. Your sign-in expired. Reconnect from the assistant's connector settings.

  • "This needs a BaseMap subscription." The data you asked for is part of the Pro Ultimate plan. The message includes where to upgrade.

  • A saved waypoint isn't in the app. Pull to refresh or open the app again to sync. It appears within a couple of minutes.

  • The assistant answered about the wrong place. It can't see your map. Tell it the unit, town or waypoint name, and it will use that.
