Getting to Know the New HuntWind™ Feature

Sep 9, 2020 | HuntWind | 0 comments

Every whitetail hunter has felt it.

Sitting in your stand, you watch as a buck slowly works a scrape line. His head is down and he inches closer to being in range. Then, the hair on your neck bristles as that fall wind changes direction. The buck’s nose goes into the air and he is gone faster than he appeared.

Wind is the single most important factor when big game hunting. You may fool a mature whitetail’s eyes and ears, but you will never fool its nose.

Slip-ups are not an option when playing the wind, and that’s why BaseMap’s newest feature, HuntWind™, has removed the guesswork when it comes to this important factor.

Follow below for how this new feature will completely change your whitetail hunt.

Watch the Forecast

Everyday we get closer to hunting season is one more day of studying weather patterns.

Every second of hunting season is precious and can’t be wasted, so we consume all the data we can to be prepared for our day in the field.

The highs, lows, pressure and solunar phases are important, but it’s hard to find a wind forecast. Until now. HuntWind provides you with hyper accurate real-time wind data that you can use to plan your hunt.

The forecast can be used to plan which direction you’ll approach your stand the morning of, or can be monitored all week like any other weather forecast.

The future forecast gives you plenty of time to move stands to different locations, or plan different routes to your stand without blowing your scent the wrong way.

Mark Your Tree Stand

You spend all summer setting cameras and using that info to find the perfect spot for your tree stand. That perfect position is vital, but sitting in that stand when the wind is right is priceless.

HuntWind allows you to place a marker on your exact tree stand position and allows you to set an ideal wind direction for hunting. You can then check your stand at any time of the day and HuntWind will let you know how the conditions are for your stand.

Now when you’re sitting in the office waiting for quitting time, you can monitor the wind direction and plan the best directional route to the tree. Your personalized marker will even provide a graphic representing which direction the wind is blowing, allowing you to visualize not only the wind direction, but the scent drift in relation to your stand’s location.

Green Means Go

Big bucks don’t grow old by living in easy to target areas. An elusive, mature buck often makes a career, living in areas with swirling and unpredictable wind, keeping him out of sight and off the ground.

The key to drawing your bow back may be the brief periods when the wind is perfect and HuntWind will tell you that exact time.

HuntWind’s color coded wind indicators, will show you the exact moment when your specific winds are perfect for sitting in the stand. Just like checking the wind for the proper direction, you can also set a marker on your stand and program that marker for your desired wind direction.

Your marker will actually then glow green or red signifying if the wind is right (green) for hunting, or not (red), based on your preferences.

This lets you monitor your stand from anywhere and keep an eye out for that perfect wind pattern and that green light that means grab your bow and your boots.

Wind giveth and wind taketh away during hunting season. All the scent free soaps and synthetic urine in the world won’t do you any good if you don’t become a student of the invisible force.

Make sure the wind is working for you and not against you this hunting season. Be informed and watchful of all patterns and forecasts this fall. Let BaseMap’s HuntWind feature keep the bucks in front of your face and the wind off your back.
